Kiawanda Community Center is open to the public 52 weeks a year, 6 days a week excepting holidays, 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday thru Friday, 1 to 4:30 p.m. on Saturdays and some evenings. That’s more than 300 days per year!

Because of caring volunteers, visitors are welcomed by a person at the front desk. Questions are answered with available handouts, postings on our Bulletin Boards, or because of local knowledge.

The Fireside Lounge is a quiet spot to hold a conversation, read, go on-line with your own portable device, work a puzzle, play a game or browse for local information.

The Senior Meal Site serves meals at noon to both Senior Citizens and the public-at-large 5 days a week excepting holidays. Cheerful volunteers dish up from the kitchen, wait tables and wash dishes.

Northwest Senior and Disability Services contracts with Bateman Company to prepare these meals and provides for delivery to other meal sites throughout Tillamook and Clatsop County. NWSDS also employs a coordinator at KCC who supervises both the meal service and local Meals on Wheels deliveries. Last year 67,000 meals (1200 per week) were prepared in KCC’s kitchen and dispersed to the public.

Because KCC has no tax money to support upkeep, operations or pay for management and custodial employees, the Board of Directors bears the responsibility of applying for Grants, holding Fund Raising Events and turning to the Public for donations. They also are Volunteers, as I am, and have been for many years.

NOW YOU KNOW!

Please donate if you can. Come to our Volunteer Meeting to see how you can help, Monday, September 30th at 1 p.m. and meet Jody, our Volunteer Coordinator! Thank you!

BUSINESS ADS

When I took over the Kiawanda Kapers with the December ‘15 edition, there were about 14 ads at that time. To date we have 36 businesses who have come on board, or stayed on board, to help support us with the last 6 signing up within the past few months.

As the editor of the Kiawanda Kapers, I just want to thank those businesses in our community as well as those in the outlying communities of Pacific City that have stepped up and placed their ads in support of our newsletter, the Kiawanda Kapers.
